DJ Dance Night. Dance the night away to the energy, sound and innocence of sweet 60’s soul music! As soul music turned into funk in the late-Sixties, disillusioned kids from the North of England fed up with the ‘pop’ scene began to turn their tastes backward, scouring the racks for rare Motown and Detroit soul they hadn't heard yet. Dave Godin, who ran the Soul City record shop in London, developed the term ‘Northern Soul’ in 1968 to refer to obscure soul being bought by fans from the North of the country. Manchester's Twisted Wheel club was the first to cater to this phenomenon, starting in 1963; by 1967, the Saturday "all-nighters" of up tempo rare soul had gained in popularity. So join us at the Tunnels with music provided by our resident DJ playing 45's from many labels like Staxs, Atlantic, and or course Tamla Motown.Keep the faith!
