Party: RIB familiarisation

1st trip - RIB familiarisation

You'll need drysuit/wetsuit or a flotation device/life jacket
You'll need to have done the boat handling course to get signed off as OK to take the boat on your own, but you could use this as just a taster of what its all about.
No dive kit needed for the familiarisation trip but a drysuit will keep you warm !

Find the marina and RIB :-)
Remove cover
Check everything is ok
collect jerry cans for fuel from the RIB (refuel at marina ? )
Check the 2 stroke oil level
See RIB launched
Tie it up to the pontoon
Check both engines and steering/hydraulics
Check electronics work
Check tools/flares
Check in with the coast guard/harbour master
Drive the RIB
Use the gps to locate a wreck in the harbour.
Recover people from the water (practise, not divers) we'll just take a few pairs of fins
Go down to the Portland race
Come back to the marina
Check out with the coast guard/harbour master on the radio
See the boat recovered
Wash down and flush engine
Fit cover

2nd trip
As above but shot and dive the wreck, have the boat handler/s looked after by an experienced coxswain.
As its in the harbour if we had a big take up we could get quite a few trips done, maybe 20 min dives.
Follow divers on a drift dive, again watched over by an experienced coxswain.

If you get ticked off as OK on the above two senarios you’d now be able to take the boat on trips diving within the harbour.

We will also be organising trips 3 and 4 as below in the near future if there is demand for it.

3rd trip

As above but outside the harbour, the handler would also need to show chart and tide skills.
And be watched over by an experienced coxswain

4th trip as above

If all has gone well and the boat handler is confident of his/her skills we would now say you are ok to organise Portland dive trips on the RHIB.

Just like diver crossovers if someone has experience already then just a familiarisation trip with an experienced member and a display of the needed skills would be enough to be able to book the boat for your own club trip.
