They say that all good things must come to an end. It appears that now, after 6 years, that time has come for Hanging Garden. Yes, Hanging Garden will be coming to a close next month with our final event taking place on September 12th. To make this event as great as possible, resident DJ, DJ Havok (Adam Havkin), will be joined by three great DJs who have to come to embody what Hanging Garden was all about: The amazing DJ Impulse (Paul Graham), the crowd favorite DJ Jennacyde (Jennifer Zegar), and the man who none of us would be here without, the legendary DJ Hiem (Jim Semonik). Together, we hope to deliver one final amazing night of Industrial and Goth music.
So, why is the night ending? Well, that’s a tough question to answer. There is no doubt that over the past year, we have noticed a steady decline in attendance. Sure, some months would be great, but for the most part, it has been difficult for us to maintain a steady number of 40-60 attendees per month, where once we would have 100+ attendees at every event, which originally took place twice a month. Why has the decline occurred? Well, we’re not entirely sure. Perhaps we didn’t promote enough, or perhaps our night didn’t deliver on the experience that people in the scene were looking for. We could sit here, speculating and hypothesizing in order to find a concrete answer, but whatever the reason is, the important thing is to note where we’re at now.
But the decline in attendance numbers isn’t the only reason for the night ending. As the years have changed, so too have our lives. And with so much going on with our personal and professional lives, we simply do not have the capacity anymore to fully commit towards running an ongoing club night. And so, it is time for us to move on and for others, who do have such a capacity to deliver, to take our place.
So with that, allow us to say that it has been a great honor and privilege to be the premiere Industrial/Goth night of Pittsburgh for the past six years. A night where new music and old hits could thrive together in an environment like no other. But our night would have been absolutely nothing without all of you. And so, we deeply thank all of you for the support over the years. Whether you attended once, or you attended our night every month, thank you so, so very much. Know that this night was for you, and it would be an honor if you would join us for one final, kick ass night in September.
