Canvas Laugh Club presents Check And Mate in association with Story Ghar.

The play revolves around a proud chess player, who in his old age is still holding on to his game and values. There is an ensemble of 6 artists.

Munsif Hussain Abdi is a renowned chess player who has now become old and living with his wife and 3 sons (all chess players) in a rented house. He is hopeful that one day he will be given his due, whereas his wife is tired of his undying spirit and unreasonable ethics. Finally 'Miya Munsif' comes to terms with changing times, while the audience enjoys his sharp wit and funny repartee with various characters of the play.

Why this Play: The play allows the audience to sit back, relax and forget about their mundane routine. It sparks laughter and giggles. The comedy is clean and is devoid of casual sexism or racism. The plot and characters are relatable, wherein so-called NokJhonk between two protagonists is catchy and the scenes are comical. Set is minimalistic, therefore audience stays focused on dialogues and body acting.
