Count yourself in for an end-of-summer day of competition for dragon boaters AND outrigger paddlers on Saturday 23 September. There are victories to be won. There is fun to be had. There are prizes. And food. And end-of-season bragging rights.
Test your mettle at FGPC’s first annual Paddle Battle! Registration is NOW OPEN.
Here’s how to participate. Click here: http://fgpaddle.com/races/fgpc-1st-annual-paddle-battle-registration/). Then register and pay your $25 donation online. Then get ready for Saturday 23 September. The races start at 9.30am and end at 2.30pm.
Each registrant will receive a Paddle Battle Passport on race day that allows you to accumulate points as you compete in the various races over the day. Your passport also provides you with access to food and beverages at the event and even better, enrolls you in draws for a selection of prizes. There are two grand prizes – two paddles! Each paddle prize is the winning paddlers’ choice of a carbon dragon boat blade OR a hybrid outrigger blade (compliments of FGPC). Other prizes include gift certificates to local eateries, including Il Terrazzo, Big Wheel Burger and others, as well as bottles of wine and many other goodies.
Paddle Battle races include:
1. 1 X 20pp dragon boat (Millennium) race with FGPC staff drummer and stern over 250 meters.
2. 1 X OC6 race with one buoy turn with FGPC staff stern over 500 meters.
3. 1 X 10pp dragon boat (BUK) race with one buoy turn with FGPC staff stern and drummer over 500 meters.
The top 16 paddlers (based on passport results accumulated over the day) will be entered into a Millennium Dragon Boat Tug-of-War leading to a victory by the top ranked 8 paddlers of the day. All 8 winning paddlers will receive prizes, with gold, silver and bronze awards going to the three contestants with the highest points overall.
Please participate! Every registration dollar donated ($25 each) helps to offset the cost of food and prizes at the event, and more importantly, contributes to FGPC’s Equipment Fund — this is the fund that helps us purchase new boats, expanded docks, paddles PFDs and other equipment that directly benefits paddlers.
Every dollar helps us improve the club – just as every Paddle Battle point helps you win prizes and glory on Saturday 23 September.
Paddles up!
